One of the top fencing schools in NYC

The biggest obstacle to athletic development is boredom. The best way to achieve excellence, in sports, in school, and in everything else, is to have fun with what you are doing. All of the exercises we employ in our fencing classes are designed to engage the student’s mind as well as body, so that the training is fun and the student learns and improves more quickly. Our unique methodology and training system have allowed us to turn beginners into some of the nation’s top athletes in extremely short time.

Children in our programs learn more than just how to fence. They learn how to excel.

Home to some of the best fencers in the world

At Sheridan Fencing Academy, we take pride supporting our athletes from the beginner stage to the highest levels of the sport. Our athletes can start in the sport as young as four or as old as 94, and can be supported with world-class training all the way to the top of the fencing world.

Sheridan Fencing Academy athletes have had tremendous success in the sport and in life. Accolades have included National, NCAA, and World Championship titles, along with recruitment to some of the best colleges in the country, including Harvard, Princeton, Brown, UPenn, John Hopkins, Vassar, MIT, and more.

  • Sheridan is the perfect place to start a successful fencing career. Jason, the head coach, is particularly gifted at cultivating a love for the sport in his students from an early age. The combination of his expertise and the fun, child-friendly atmosphere of the club creates an environment where students can thrive.

  • As former fencers, my husband and I put a lot of thought into where we wanted to bring our young children to start fencing. I asked several friends still involved in coaching fencing and they recommended trying Sheridan. We have had the best experience and are so grateful to the studio.

  • While it's a great place for younger kids to fence, it's also a great starting place for adults with little to no prior experience! The coaches are fantastic, it's a fun environment, and a wonderful way to pick up a new hobby that happens to be an awesome workout.

  • Sheridan Fencing Academy provides an exceptional job at teaching their students the fundamentals of fencing. My child has made so many friends here, which is an added bonus. If you’re looking for a spot for your child to grow mentally and physically while learning a great sport, then this is your spot!

Our story

Since 2007, Sheridan Fencing Academy has been offering an alternative approach to fencing training. From beginning with just a few students in a small basement, to where we are now with three full-time facilities, we have maintained a focus on developing a program that stands apart from the rest of the fencing world. And the results have been clear. We regularly train some of the top fencers in the country and the world. We have turned beginners into National and World Champions. Even more importantly, we have helped hundreds of people discover a love of physical activity.

Our coaching philosophy

Our goal at Sheridan Fencing Academy is to help kids—and adults!—discover that anyone can be an athlete. Many people become convinced that sports aren’t for them because the training they’ve been exposed to was either boring or militaristic. The secret to get someone to love sports (or any activity) is to make it fun! At Sheridan Fencing, we understand that the more fun you have, the more you can achieve.

Fun training is SERIOUS training.

  • Great training is FUN training

  • Everyone has the capacity for success

  • Talent is a myth—success comes from motivation, dedication, and perseverance

  • Quality training engages more than just the body; it engages the mind

  • A love of training is always more important than competitive results
